Today at work a friend was saying she was trying to find the first book that her daughter ever read, so she could purchase it for her grandchild. It got me to thinking about the first book that I remember actually reading.
Here's a watercolor that I did of one of the characters from, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. I think this book is what got me interested in all things monsters at a very young age. Please leave the title of the first book you remember reading in the comments section at the bottom of this post.
I don't remember the first book I read but I do remember a book that taught me how to read. It had a beige cover is all I remember. I knew how to read before kindergarten so I guess I was maybe 4 or 5.

The first book I remember really digging was Old Hat New Hat... of all the great kids books why that one I don't know, it just always struck me as really funny. I also remember liking the Berenstain Bears Halloween book alot, and Bears in the Night.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it was the first one I ever read, but it was one of my favs -- Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina. Some other favs--Bread & Jam for Francis and any of the Amelia Bedelia books.
ReplyDeleteThis book is one of my favorites. Being a pre-school/infant teacher it is read quite often. My co-teacher in pre-school and I used to dress up the kids and put on a play. They loved it. Kathy Prario
