Cartoon Faces

Just playing with some cartoon faces of basically the same shape. It's funny how adding a few changes such as the hair, makes it look like a completely different character. The last one kind of looks like me.

Elmo

A quick one of Elmo. The Sesame Street characters are are quite fun to draw.

3D Ant

I picked up this book, Drawing in 3-D quite some time ago. It is really geared towards kids, but it has some great ideas and tips on making drawings look three dimensional. This ant I did in pencil was one of the first examples that the book shows.

Another Character

Just another character I was messing around with. Done in pen and purple highlighter.

Trying To Get A Head

I go through a fazes where I try to teach myself anatomy drawing from the couple of books I have on the subject. Here is one of my attempts to draw a skull. It was done with a Pigma Micron pen.

By the way, I added a Simon game on the right under my Songs For Wasting Paper. I remember when one of my cousins received Simon for Christmas. I was ridiculously bad at playing at it. Now some 30 years later I'm just as awful at it. Have fun!

Does Anyone Remember This Guy?

It's none other than...Captain Caveman. He is from a Saturday morning Hanna-Barbera cartoon. The show was a knock-off of Scooby-Doo and it featured Captain Caveman and three teenage girls, Brenda, Taffy and DeeDee. The show was called Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels. Captain Cavemen was voiced by the legendary Mel Blanc who did the voices of the Looney Tunes. Many years after this show aired I did a brief stint working at a steel mill and one of my co-worker's nickname was Captain Caveman. I drew him with a Faber Castell Pitt pen and colored pencils.

Lest We Forget!

I was eight years old when the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup in the 1969-70 season. I had many favorite players from the "Big Bad Bruins", such as Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, Gerry Cheevers and "Ace" Bailey. I collected their hockey cards, pretended I was them while playing street hockey and watched every game.

Fast forward to 9:03 a.m. Tuesday September 11, 2001, when pilot hijacker Marwan al-Shehhi flew United Airlines Flight 175 into the World Trade Tower killing 65 people including Garnet "Ace" Bailey. I am still angry that a piece of my childhood was taken away for nothing more than sheer hatred. I will not forget and unfortunately, at this time I can not forgive. Another Inspired By Danny Gregory

The Farmer's Almanac has predicted that we will have a colder than normal winter here in New England this year. The above picture was taken in my back yard two winters ago, when we lucked out with a mild one. I took the picture on January 5, 2007 at four o'clock in the afternoon, if you can believe it. That's the actual plant that I taped into my sketchbook ten days later when it wilted. I had just finished up Danny Gregory's Creative License, The: Giving Yourself Permission to Be The Artist You Truly Are and was itching to get started. This was done in the method that he suggests in his book, just grab some paper and a pen and draw what's around you. Don't draw it out in pencil first and give yourself the luxury of removing the mistakes. The mistakes are what allow you to learn to draw.

I did this with Faber Castell pen and my Windsor Newton Pocket watercolor set.

Plan 9 From Outer Space

If you are a fan of cheesy Sci-Fi and Monster movies from the past than you more than likely have seen this film, Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Another From Maine

This is the other drawing I did while on vacation in Maine. I went through my tackle bag and took out some of the more interesting lures to draw. Done with Pigma Micron and Koi watercolors.

Back From Vacation

I'm back after a nice relaxing vacation in Maine. Friends of ours let us stay in their wonderful house right on the lake in Harrison, Maine. Thanks Mike and Trish! We filled our days with reading, fishing, napping and just spending quality time with each other. It was my wife's 40th birthday so it was a really great way to celebrate it. Happy Birthday Patti, I love you!
