Fore! Newest Map Commission - Borderland State Park's Disc Golf Course

In the late 1970's my friend's and I played a form of Frisbee golf, now officially know as Disc Golf. We had no rules back then - we basically traipsed through the woods and picked out certain trees that you had to hit for the holes.

So, when I was approached to do a map of a disc golf course located in one of my local state parks, I couldn't say no.  I had no idea how big disc golf is.  There is even a Professional Disc Golf Association, a  PDGA Tour and World Championships.  I may have to try this out!

Here is my latest commission - Dighton, MA. (Click any of the images for a closer look.)

The Latest Map - Newburyport, MA

Here's my latest commission - Newburyport, MA.  This one took 10 hours to complete from start to finish.

Two hours in - penciled and the inking has begun.

More inking and all of the pencil lines have been erased.

The inking and lettering is now complete - 7 hours in.

After just under an hour of stippling.

Aged with a wash (note the high tech and very expensive aging board used in this step).

10 hours in total, and ready for a wall.

Making Maps

I was completely blown away by the absolutely gorgeous watercolor maps that Mike Reagan (Cartoonist Survey #279) creates, and was inspired to paint some of my own.

These maps are really fun to make, and I've been blessed to have already sold one of them.
